A Dream for Haiti: Inspiring Change and Justice

In Remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

I have a dream for Haiti. I hope that one day, the United Nations will transform from a platform of oppression into a force for justice, no longer retaliating against the First Black Republic of the World. I envision a time when the Organization of American States (OAS) becomes relevant, taking meaningful steps to recognize and honor the values of the Haitian Revolution while advocating for racial justice for Haitians throughout the Americas.

I dream that the United States will confront its issues regarding race and will stop its oppression of Haiti. Instead, it will strive to understand the significance of the Haitian Revolution, acknowledging and appreciating the unique sacrifices and contributions that Haiti has made to the independence, development, and progress of the United States, unlike any other nation in the world. The U.S. should also take responsibility for its historical wrongs against Haiti.

I dream that France will finally let go of its resentment toward Haiti stemming from the 1803 defeat it suffered at the hands of Haitian revolutionary forces. I envision France developing a respectful and meaningful relationship with Haitians, free from prejudice, deceit, hypocrisy, and colonial attitudes, and returning the vast wealth it extracted from Haiti.

I dream that the Dominican Republic will stop serving as a tool for imperialist agendas against Haiti and will recognize the significant contributions of Haiti to its history. It must work to dismantle its anti-Haitian attitudes and actions.

I wish for Caribbean and African nations to understand the immense price Haiti has paid for its freedom and existence. They need to recognize the unjust penalties imposed on Haiti for leading the fight against slavery and becoming a truly independent Black nation, one that does not take orders from anyone. In essence, Haiti is an entirely free and independent country.

I dream that African Americans will unify with Haitians in the struggle against racial injustice across the continent, including the USA, Canada, and the Dominican Republic, in both domestic policy and international relations.

One day, the Haitian elite will recognize their deep-seated obligation to the Haitian people, respect and embrace their culture, and align their interests with those of all Haitians, standing united against destabilizing external forces.

I envision a future where Haitian leaders acknowledge the harm they have caused their people and work towards reconciliation.

I dream of a day when the unrest in Haiti will cease, the exodus of Haitians will come to an end, and the painful experiences faced by Haitians—like those at Del Rio, Texas—will be relegated to history. I hope to see Haitians returning joyfully to their homeland.

Free at last! Free at last! Haiti is free at last! Long live Haiti!
