The popular perception of Haiti as a violent country discourages tourists from visiting it. In fact, the Haitian Government survey in 2005 found that 29% of women had experienced intimate partner violence in the previous 12 months (Gage, 2005). Most victims of violence are women, children, and young people, especially those living in economically depressed areas.
